MALDIVES: Shifting Patterns

With a growing saturated appeal, Maldives-based travel agencies have witnessed a change in the demographics of clients.

Mohamed Riyaz, managing director, Lets Go Maldives, posited that with the luxury segment’s rise, families seeking an upscale travel experience have become the main source of business for the company, overtaking honeymooners.

Similarly, Aminath Nina Nizar, sales and marketing manager, Sun Travels & Tours, stressed that although the Maldives used to be known as a popular destination for newly-weds, the agency caters to a variety of subsectors, including hosted groups, families and divers, among more.

Indeed, Asim noted that tourism stakeholders have started taking steps to accommodate all types of guests, with family travellers remaining a key priority, especially those from the Gulf region.
